FAQ
AKILA is based in Downtown Los Angeles with retail stores in LA and New York.
LA is a city known for its cultural and geographic diversity. Its urban hubs and world-famous neighborhoods are framed by vast nature preserves on the outskirts of Los Angeles County. At AKILA, we embrace the wide range of experiences that LA has to offer, and we love creating different styles inspired by them. This city has given us a lot, and we strive to build upon that by hosting year-round community events and maintaining our commitment to sustainability.
Plus, having more than 200 days of sunshine every year is quite helpful for our R&D process. 😎
Yes, we have stores in Los Angeles and New York.
AKILA NY is the brand's first flagship store and community hub on the East Coast. In making the Lower East Side its East Coast home, AKILA intentionally aligns itself with an area that has been full of local culture for generations, a spot to seek and consume everything from art to food and music. AKILA NY is more than a store for us, it is a community hub and platform for exclusive launches, collaborations, and special projects that tap into the brand as a whole as much as the neighborhood the store inhabits in NYC.
AKILA LA is our newest location and first LA flagship, sitting inside the new Sunset Row development in the heart of Silver Lake. The recently completed art deco complex is nestled inside a reimagined former auto body shop from the 1930s – which serendipitously matches AKILA’s own brand ethos of creating classic designs with modern sensibilities.
We also have a store in DTLA across the street from our HQ called Flower District Gift Shop. This location also showcases a curation of other products and brands we admire for their modern sensibilities and sharp design. F.D.G.S. was our first retail store, located where our office was originally.
Many of our frames are made from plant-based cellulose acetate, an eco-conscious alternative to cheaper plastics that allows for a wide range of unique colors and patterns. All frames are completed with sturdy barrel hinges and stainless steel temple cores for durability, then fitted with optical class 1 nylon lenses for near-perfect clarity and scratch-resistance.
The AKILA Raw collection is constructed with unpolished acetate to show manufacturing artifacts for a subtle textured finish that gives each frame its own one-of-a-kind feel – no two pairs are identical.
The Aluminum collection features understated styles constructed from lightweight aluminum. Each frame embodies a minimalist look with a matte finish.
The Titanium collection is our newest offering and includes frames made from lightweight but durable titanium metal that provides an ideal balance of strength and comfort.
New for 2024, all new AKILA lenses are made from 50% recycled content while still maintaining perfect optical quality. Our nylon lenses are scratch resistant and block 100% harmful UVA/UVB light.
Yes! Glasses should fit comfortably and be easy to wear throughout the day. All AKILA frames can be shaped to suit your individual needs for a perfect fit.
AKILA sunglasses are made from a malleable cellulose acetate material that can be gently modified and gradually shaped for your specific size and use. The arms of all AKILA frames have a metal core that holds the acetate in place and can be adjusted easily to fit your face shape.
All sunglasses should be frequently cleaned and maintained to preserve the original design and functionality. Your AKILA eyewear is best cleaned under lukewarm water, then dried with the soft cloth included in your purchase.
We work closely with modern manufacturers in Shenzhen, China who satisfy our strict quality standards and share our passion for innovation and experimentation.
